What is Title I?Title I, Part A is a federally funded program designed to help educationally disadvantaged children meet challenging content and performance standards. The program was initially authorized in 1965 under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and was most recently reauthorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) that was passed in December 2015. Title I funding the the Lincoln Woodstock Cooperative School District may change from year to year. Allocations to schools are based upon the percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch in combination of other data. This year, the Lin-Wood Elementary School receives Title I funds to foster reading and math support. Targeted Assisted ProgramAt Lin-Wood Elementary School, the Title I project is specifically written to address instructional needs in the areas of reading and mathematics. Eligibility is based upon the results of assessments, teacher observations and recommendations. Certified teachers provide support for those eligible students. Students who qualify for supplemental Title I Reading and/or Math support will meet with certified teacher for the opportunity to deepen their understanding. Following current research and best practices, the majority of our Title I funds are used to support intensive reading and math instruction by certified teachers in grades K-5. The Lincoln Woodstock Cooperative School District is committed to supporting the collaboration between parents and school. Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education and are invited to meet with their Title I teachers at any time by appointment. A parent representative is invited to sit in and be an active member of our Title I monthly meetings and all parents of children eligible to receive Title I assistance participate in a beginning of year annual meeting typically held on Parent / Teacher Conference night and an end of the year survey. Parent Involvement PolicyThe Lincoln Woodstock Cooperative School District adopted a revised Title I Parent Involvement Policy KB and KB-R (2015). These school board policies can be found in the Learning CompactThe Lin-Wood Elementary School provides the parents of children eligible to receive Title I services with a Learning Compact. Learning Compacts are voluntary agreements that create a strong partnership between families and schools in order to help ensure student success. Parent Survey / Parent EvaluationParents of Title I students in the Lincoln Woodstock Cooperative School District are consulted by both an annual survey and program evaluation in order to provide input into and assess the current Title I program. Recommendations for revisions to the next year plans are welcomed. Parent Information / InputReport cards and progress reports along with newsletters provide parents with periodic updates and allow sharing of information and ideas. Annual MeetingThe annual Title I meeting at Lin-Wood Elementary School usually coincides with the fall parent / teacher conference night. It provides parents with the opportunity to learn more about the Title I program, eligibility requirements, and to visit informally with teachers regarding their curriculum and methodologies. Title I Complaint FormsAny time there is a question or concern regarding the Lincoln Woodstock Cooperative School District’s Title I program, parents are encouraged to contact their child’s Title I teacher, building administrator, or contact Kelly Mask, Director of Pupil Services, SAU # 68. Complaint forms are available at Lin-Wood Elementary School or on the district’s website. Parent’s Right to KnowAs required by law, parents are notified that they may request information regarding the professional qualifications of their child’s teachers.
